The US Food and Drug Administration said a test has found that either a frog or a toad was discovered in a Florida man's drink - but it is not clear how it got there.
The FDA confirmed the remains of an animal were in Fred Denegri's can of Diet Pepsi. Denegri popped open the can on July 23 as he was grilling dinner in Ormond Beach.
He thought the animal was a rodent.
Pepsi spokesman Jeff Dahncke said the company is aware of the testing and stands by its manufacturing process. The can was traced back to a plant in Orlando that produces about 1,250 cans a minute.
Mr Dahncke said the speed of production lines and rigorous quality control make it virtually impossible for a frog or toad to get into a can.
Mr Denegri said he is certain the animal was in the can before he opened it.
