They are clearly stunning Trish very vibrant colouration which is a warning to predators poison dart frogs are amongst the most deadliest animals on earth due to toxins they produce, however captive breed do not produce this toxin due to there diet of fruit flies that don’t contain ingredience necessary to produce this toxin, as there toxin in the wild is produced by the alkaloids found in rainforest plants. That there prey would consume. They really are gorgeous and a welcome part to any collection.

Oh, that's perfect! So, they wouldn't be a poisonous pet :)

As soon as I'm able to have a few more pets....my apartment has unfortunate limitations but as soon as I can, I'll have to look into these frogs! :)

I'm just wondering, does anyone know what diet it is that they eat in the wild to make them poisonous?

Trish it is not fully understood what the wild frogs seem to be eating that allows them to produce their poison. As i said some say its produced by the alkaloids found in rainforest plants. That there prey would consume making them toxic

im not 100% sure but i read somewhere that it is to do with a type of ant they eat in the wild,
but the only way the wild ones are harmful to us is if you have a cut on your skin, as the toxin can not be absorbed throu our skin, aslong as if you dont touch them with your hands and then put your hands in your mouth, if you want more info on these let me know as im very keen on these myself
