Most people that keep dendro's also keep flies!

Learning to culture fruit flies is a good start, then deciding what species you like is your next move.

I also advise people to have kept amphibs before. FBT's are a great start!

The setup is most important. Care of most dendrobates is similar, just some species allow to mistakes more then others!

If you can, let the setup grow for 2months. Will look even better, and give you chance to get food cultures sorted.

A good few starters to look at are:

Leucomelas. Nice and bold, and will take small crickets if get a culture crash.
Tinctorius. Again, nice and bold, and various morphs to choose from.
Tricolors. Smaller than above, but great call.
Auratus. Again, lots of morphs, nice call, but a little shy (this varies morph to morph though).
Azureventris. Nice species, but be careful, they're bloody fast!

Lots more I can mention, but easier to have a look, see what you like, then ask away!

Hi,

I agree with Chris.

The best thing to do is make sure you can keep the food for flies and make sure you can keep the amount needed.

It is usually best to have more than one type of food to offer variety. Once the food is sorted do lots of research on the species you are interested in this includes the conditions they need to thrive and the type of setup they will be happy in. Read lots and dont always take what you read on the internet as gospal, unless you know the information is coming from an experienced keeper of datfrogs.

If you have incorrect conditions or setup the frogs will not do well and will become stressed. Stress is one of the biggest killers when it comes to keeping dartfrogs.

Another type of dartfrog you could maybe look into is a thumbnail species, but I would not really recommend these if they are going to be your first amphibian. They are not usually recommended as a first dartfrog but providing you have experience with amphibians and you can create the right environment then they can be considered.

Hope this helps.
