A bit of advice..
Hey
has anyone ever experienced one of their frogs becoming incredibly bloated.. to the point where they look as if they are going to pop?
as funny as it probably sounds im quite concerned about one of my boyfriends white's tree frogs who seems to have filled up with fluid almost..
he looks really lethargic, but still tries to catch his food
sometimes when he tried to jump around he ends up flipping onto his back, and not being able to right himself...
I used to have one myself, who used to get bloated from time to time, but he always went down again, it was the same with this little guy at first but now he just seems to be getting larger
has anyone got any idea?

Here you go:
Bloating Disease - common affliction of African Clawed and African Dwarf clawed frogs.
Bloating Disease as it is often referred to is when large amounts of fluids collect in the abdomen, legs and chin of the frog giving the frog the appearance of a blown up latex rubber glove. The frog can live with this condition for a short period of time but soon the frog will stop eating and become buoyant due to the pressure of the fluids on the internal organs. From my research I have discovered that it appears to be caused by the infection of a certain type of bacteria (still looking into exactly which type) which seems to affect the lymph ducts which drain the bodies fluids properly, the bacteria seems to block or stop function and ability of these ducts which leads to the accumulation of large amounts of fluid. This fluid can naturally be broken down by the frogs body if proper conditions or medication is administered. Aquarium salt and Anti-Internal Bacterial tropical fish remedy has appeared to be successful. Some accounts have shown that a pure diet of bloodworm can often lead to BD, especially in ADFs. This is perhaps because the bacteria which causes BD may be present in the digestive tract or epidermis of the bloodworms.

right,
i have also read that mineral water helps to kill the bacteria
it says to leave him in it for a couple of hours, and it should help,
i would be hesitant to use the fish treatments, although i know they are both reliable treatments for fish, as i have used them for mine, I dont know on what doseage you should give it to a small frog...
Jason is going to give him a mineral/spring water bath tonight for 2 hours and then see how he is in the morning, if hes looking better we will probably give him another one. if not... then ill have to try and work out how much to give the little dude of the other treatments xx

Hey everyone
I have been bathing the little froggy, with mineral water and also with aquarium salt baths,
He is still alive, which is a good thing but he is still very bloated and cant really move around very well....
i dont know what else i can do for him, we are both trying to make him better, but very little improvement has been present, other than he is still alive... which is remarkable.
part of me thinks it would be kinder to put him out of his misery..
any idea anyone? xxx

hummm...
il have another look tomorrow hun for some info.
why not seperate him from the other frogs, and keep him in a small rub, and treat him alone, with a bigger water bowl so he can sit in it?

Yea, but problem being with that is that he will drown, as he is so bloated, he flips over and cant get back up.
I feel very sorry for him, but dont knw what else to do for him,
Jason has left the bath tonight, he looked so uncomfortable, we didnt want to fiddle around with him and make him stressed so have left him be.
We will see how he is in the morning.
thanks tom, will be on here tomorro at some point to see what you find.

I have some sad news,
The froggy passed away this morning in my hands.
It wasnt very nice, but atleast he is at peace now.
He started leaking water. (altho it sounds strange) I thought this was a good sign, as his bloated belly went down, but I dont think his organs could take it, and he died in my hand.
Im just sorry we couldnt do anything more for him, but we tried to the best of our knowledge.
He is out of pain now.
R.I.P little guy xxx
Thank you to everyone who has tried to offer advice on his treatment.
Amy & Jason
