We have bought a ceramic heater from a certain auction site afterr reading comments on here and other forums that the one we were looking at would be ok......the only problem I have is that my wife and myself are a little worried about the heat of the metal bracket might damage the viv and the reed screening she has lined the roof and walls of the viv in.
I have read that a ceramic tile can be used to protect the viv and we have some spare ceramic floor tiles and we wondered if one of these cut to the right size would do the job
The Heater

The mounting bracket

The bracket will hold the heater approx 30mm away from anything...plus the thicknes of the floor tile(8mm thick).
Any input from any member would be much appreciated.

I understand there are some legal issues on the suitability of these heaters for domestic use. They are designed for commercial use in drying processes in the plastics industry etc.. But were adopted some 15 years ago or more, for use with reptiles. Sometime ago they were withdrawn from general sale, as a "reptile" heater. Whether they are legal for use or not, they can be very dangerous if not used correctly; for reasons of combustion, and burns to the animal.

I would not personally like to advise either way.

But! if you did use, then you would need to run on a suitable stat, you would need a guard to protect the animal and yourself from any contact burns, you would need to place an insulator inbetween the heater and the ceiling of the viv such as Superlux. And overall the heater should be installed by a qualified electrician using heat resistant cable and cermaic connectors.

Cheers
