View Full Version : Thinking!

Just thinking about getting some more hatchling racks organised.
On previous occasions we have used the traditional "cadbury" tubs
I have also got a rack of small glass containers for hatchlings.
Looking back the problem with all of them has been the lids.
Organising lots of babies can be very time consuming indeed and
very often becomes quite tiresome, when you have to remove the tub
entirely to remove the lid.
Unlike these past attempts, going to do a system that is lidless i think!

the one i have not long made and had in use for the boas and now the carpets
is awesome,i made mine to the size of tub that i thought would do the job that we needed it
for and up to now its done an awesome job.
i made mine 3 foot wide and 4 foot high and 1 foot deep and the layers are the hight of the
tub with on lid for easy and fast change over,
or for fast feeding, its working very well and our main rep shop has asked me to build them one
the good thing with them is i can make them in sections so its easy for transporting.
I'm running ours with heat mats to a man fuse then powered by a good 600 Watt stat
got a few digi thermometers on a few of the layers and the temps have been very good and
very little fluctuation at all if any.
there are a few pics on the forum just not had chance now its all full and finished.

this is the one i made for us,its 3 foot wide 4 foot high and a foot deep,
each level holds 5 230x160x80mm tubs with no lids
with 12 layers it holds 60 that size.

i was going to use heat cable sunk in to the layers but got quite a few heat mats
at cost so it was an easier option this time.

go for soil warming cable , is hard wearing , durable , and a ton cheaper than rep cable (the same thing) .
i use the soil cable for the retics aswell , i'm useing 4X75w in one of the viv units and thats heating 10 large retics !!! so a real bargain , just dont use the tin tape , if your fitting it in the top use 2-3mm poly and seal it in place , cos for some reason the tape goes realy manky on the soil cable .
