im planning on building a table for our tortoise, but want to turf it, and keep it alive..
would a mega ray light be the best way to keep it nice and growing?..
i ask as i know it would "spectrum" the u.v.. and be alot better than tubes..
any ideas would be great!
Thanks.

it would probably be better but tbh, grass is the most ocmmon weed for a very good reason, it'll grow anywhere lol! If you position the table near a source of sunlight - that shoudl be sufficiant.
As long as the soil is of a decent depth and you keep it reasonably moist, you'll be ok. The only problem will be that keeping it moist means raising the humidity in that part of the table. What species of tort do you have?

its a hermans dude..
i know what you mean, what other options are there, i want it very ntural, and i was thinking of spraying the grass, and letting my tort run around for an hour or so till it drys, as the heat will dry it rather quick, or do you think its not worth it?..

I think it could be great and it's something I tried in the shop, however, it got to the point where with a little bit of spraying here and there and the fact that the torts were eating it as soon as it sprouted, I gave up and planted a bit of cress in the morning instead.
If you wanna do it, I'd get some pregrown grass so it's got a chance of living before being eaten lol. It really depends on figures tbh. Hermann's will put up with humidity for a short time per day and if it's only in one corner of the table it won't be a problem. However, if you want the whole floor to sprout grass, it may be more trouble than it's worth.
Hope that rambling makes sense - I'm tired and it's only half 9!!

cheers fundo..
i think what i will do is make it 2ft deep, and create a "mountain" style flootring from soil, and grass that area, so he has to climb to eat..
then maybe add a bonzi tree to it, a tall one so he cant get to the leaves, be a nice feature for a shade area..

sounds good mate.
I'm 90% certain that bansai leaves are poisonous so you'll have to make sure none fall off the tree and that the torts doesn't knock it over (depending on sizes obviously)

full spectrum will be a great assist but also dont over water and add sugar to the water to help it grow not too much tho 1tbsp per liter most plant food is glucose so sugar is a great help hope this helped u tom
