whatever looks natural for each species. I personally don't like the newspaper, waterbowl, hide look.

IMO, if you're not gonna make the viv a show piece, what's the point in having it. I had a mate who kept snakes in a set of drawers, I thought 'what's the point?! you can't see them and it can't be any kind of life for the snake'

I use a live bioactive system for all the enclosures.

Depends on the snake, big pythons and boids i keep on newspaper. It makes cleaning a doddle and its free. Ackies I use a mix of sand, topsoil and vermiculite. Some of my snakes are on aspen and some on an eco earth/coco husk substrate. It really is something that is down to the individual animal/person and there is plenty out there so its easy to try a few before you hit gold.

i was wondering wats best for rubbing snake more..

all my snakes are in racks, and i was wondering if bark woulf b best, rob said aspen can go bad if damp, so i think nice chunky " dust free " bark might be better option.

had enough of paper, they slide through it.. drives me mad!...lol
( its always after cleaning day also. )

i use orchid back but i always boil it in water before i put it in the viv or you can put it in the microwave for a minute, this kills off any mites that may be in there

The humidity requirements of the snake determines what substrate i use, orchid bark is great as well as eco earth/cocohusk for high humidity, aspen for low. I buy mine in bulk so changing it regulary works out loads cheaper.

i have some bark on order from robs..

reason i have chosen that si robs does not have all the dirt, and small bits, so it will be good dry, but also wet, for my royals when they shed, as i have one ot two bad shedders, and im thinking i can do both with bark..

is soil good dry?..
id imagine it could get into the snakes scales/ pits, or is it rather good to use?..
never really thought about using it before.

I always try to use what's most natural for the species. If an animal is being treated for something then it goes on newspaper for more aseptic conditions.

Tom, soil can be used dry but I find giving it a light mist stops it being 'dusty' and clinging to the snake's pits.

Top soil can get mouldy quick if sprayed, coco husk/humus brick/eco-earth and those sorts dont from my experiance.
