i have a viv witch was bought as a flat pack. ( so it could fit in the car )..
do people silicon there viv's when they make them?.
i was wonderng if there was any real need to.
only reason i ask, is my viv, where my boa is being treated for mites has tiny gaps, around the edges, and i wonder if the mites might hide in there, so if i seal it all, they will either be trapped, or die.
what do you do, or think.
Thanks.

I seal them so they're water tight for things which either spill their water everywhere (Tegu!) or that require higher humidities, like my Carpets. That way it helps to prevent water damage and warping.

hello mate,i seal all my vivs if i buy or make my own they still get seal and allowed to dry and smell of silicon to go,as it makes it easier to clean edges and stays solid if water spills or anything,,if u need one that needs lots of humidity its also good cos it can take that extra water round the tank on the melamine as edges unless sealed soak up the water and swell up over time, hope this helps u make your mind up

Aquarium sealant is far safer.

its normally dry to the touch within an hour or so but dont be fooled, its only the outside thats dry and takes a good 24 hours to completely set although it will need about 48 hours for the smell to go as already mentioned.
