Question Retained Eye Cap Advice.

i recently got a new royal male, who has approx 3 sheds worth of stuck eye caps, now normally i can soak the snake for an hour or 2, then with a cotton bud, gently remove them..

untill now..

they just wont come off!

i dont want to leave the snake in the water for to long, as of course R.I etc..
so what else can i use, or do?..
im totaly lost, as ive never had an issue removing them before, but they just will not be moved!..lol

The only way to remove this is to first soften the retained eye caps with some sort of eye drops. Then they must be carefully removed from the snake. The longer this condition progresses, the more stress you will cause to your snake. Providing your snake with a proper shed box with a high level of humidity can help them not only in shedding their eye caps but shedding in general.

not sure if you have tried eye drops yet wish he was in better condition for ya fella

balls are commonly affected with this, how long as it been like this Tom if longer then 24 hours and the spectacle may have desiccated and become adherent to the living spectacle. In that case it should be rehydrated by applying a few drops of artificial tear drops, The drops should be applied several times over half hour to an hour. Attempt to remove the spectacle use a piece of scotch tape wrapped around the index finger with the sticky side out. After blotting the spectacle dry, press it gently against the eye and lifted off. If the retained spectacle seems stuck to the living one and is not easy to remove, you should use a conservative approach and do nothing other than correcting environmental condition and waiting for the next shed

Good advise Jo, i would try soaking the Ball in tepid water in a tub (RUB) for 4 hours or so, this will really help loosen then. Soaking Balls and Blood's etc... is good routine, we have soaking protaocols that we employ, and helps avoid issues like this.
