Angry "So Called Rescue"...

is it me, or are more and more people offering this service, purly to gain a few reptiles, and sell them on?..

i nearly bough another female today from a so called site, and recieved a pm, with a thread, infoming me it was taken in for free, a week ago, for free!

i find it so rude, and annoying, for the reptiles sake also, moving about from home to home, purly so someone can make a quick $ from it.

Rant over!...

Yeah seems to be a way peopel find easy to con people out of reptiles

i have taken on reptiles before that needed rehoming or looking after but in all honest i paid the person for them

then when i sell it on i sell for same price i paid for it

To put it simple ... people are just idiots and scam other people to much

Yeah i agree, I can understand the rehoming fee's i mean, its inplace to stop just anybody saying ''oh yeah, i'll take that one''. I agree with the fact it seems more and more are offering this service, and as said its seems its done for the wrong reasons.

Let them do it..

And heres Why, I know a fella who does it, hes 16-17 at the most, he's managed to get RSPCA backing him and a cotchual of other organisations, hes got some sort of waver to the DWA licence ( they've just give him it) They have never met him its all done by email and pm's on sites when he turns up he's just the "messenger".

Here's the biggest joke of it all.

I mentioned in convo about IBD. He'd never heard of it.
All of his "rescues" go in with his own stock NO quarenteen.
So laughing my Wotsits off ( in his face), because of the disbelief of what i was hearing ( any one in his possition should be highly educated in Reptile care) I started to really throw the questions at him ( and laugh even harder).
He was and is still clueless.
All of his 2 years max experience came from hear say.
Then he got hold of my number and constantly asked me,
" I've got a blah blah blah comming how big of a viv will i need,"
" What temp for this"
" wot does this eat i've just picked one up"
ect ect ect...
I helped him for a short period by guiding him in the right direction until he asked me about Cotton mouths, a rattler and some cobra the RSPCA dumped on him. I told him he shouldn't get involved with such animals with the little experience he has and with out an experienced Hot handler to guide him.
He is going too kill him self through his own ignorance. He WILL get a dose of some nasties in his collection.
Shame for the animals but mayby then he will listen a little more to the experienced keepers who were trying to guide him in a better direction to the distruction he is bringing upon his self due to his Ignorance..

I say that all rescue centers must be a fully regestered Charity and regular check up's on how much is donated, for what animal.
D.W.A.R.F is so why cant the rest?????????????????????????????????????????????? ????
The others should not be allowed to trade as a rescue!!!
Look on Pre loved and see how many are at it its a JOKE..

I completely agree with you :(

I saw somebody rehome a golden tegu, and I was asked if he could cope. I said if he was able to come over and collect it, get it out himself etc, that he should be ok as he was starting a rehoming centre.

Well... 2 months later I ate my own words. The tegu is up for sale, as he doesn't have the time due to college (despite the fact I told him golden tegus don't tame and mine took 6 months to feed while i was in the room) and that its "not as tame as I thought it would be by now."

I have been fuming about it! But unfortuately it's just another in a long line. Even when I was talking to somebody who was selling a kingsnake, they said he was part of breeding plans who had died a few months ago. Strangely, this same "dead female" then turned up alive in a shop they just didn't want to look bad on forums.

I also sold on my corn snakes last year, simply as I wasn't giving them any attention as I want to breed kingsnakes, and found one of them in the same shop not long after.

Theres a guy who keeps saying he will rehome fish. I am so close to sending him a tin of tuna.. but it may be a little rude lol. e wants to rehome spiders as well, but he will get himself killed! No experience.

i agree there are more and more popping up at present most of which do it trying to make cash(for the people that already do this know theys no money in it), i agree with tom when saying theres nothing worse than someone who swaps they reps so quickly to try make some money or just got board with what they have, instead of letting the animal settle, i myself do take on reps difference being that i take on alot of problem cases from my vets e.g. missing limbs, bitey , non feeders or needing constant medical care and now find it very annoying that i get calls from some of theese so called rescue places with things they cant sell or know what to do with eg adult iggys with mood swings for 1 example even had one ring me up to see if i had any spare vivs or setups to give them because they did not have enough , which i replied if you cant afford vivs and equipment how do u afford vet bills and treatment ?lol. the best way if your gunna rehome is check the place ur taking it to, if they say it will take a while before they can take it on, it probably means hold on till i can find a buyer, there are a few good rescue company`s out there and you will know them because they will take on anything not just things that sell, they will also have good contact details(fixed address) if they have nothing to hide, they also should have fixed prices on all the animals very similar to the rspca way of doing things. for the people that dont know me i house over 150 reps and have been keeping and interested in reptiles for 15 years and im still no expert

Hey. I understand why people want to rehome them as I would to but it should be in the interest of the animals. We have got a lot of animals/reptiles but only what we know. Were growing our collection slowly. I have just got a Brazilian Rainbow Boa and done as much reserach before hand as could. Have wanted one for ages though. But at the end of the day there is only a certain amount you can do of asking questions and reading and it will come down to making mistakes and experience. Thats how everyone learns but hopefully not at the animals expense. I volunteer at a reptile store sometimes hoping that I could get some knowledge and experience but frankly they don't have the time to teach me. Does anyone know of anywhere that do courses or something similar. We love ferrets to and have 5. When we are older we would love to rescue ferrets but that would be when we have the finance, space and loads more experience/knowledge as we know we still don't know enough.
