No More Reptiles For Me
A couple of nights ago whilst I was working away in Wales, a heat mat caught fire in my room.
Luckily the Mrs woke up just before it got too serious and managed to sort it out. The mat was attached to thermostat and was set up correctly, so the only explanation I can give is 'electrical fault'.
I have been keeping/breeding reps for well over a decade and worked as a 'reptile expert' for the last 5 years. However, my fiance is so worked up about the incident and has the words 'what if' swirling round her head - as do I. So this is me choosing her happiness over my hobby and therefore the end of my reptile keeping, for good.
Due to this, I probably won't be around too often in future. it was a pleasure meeting you all.
Mark - Fundo

Mark iv been in a similar situation with a heat bulb. It's always a worry and iv heard other people's stories were there whole reptile collection has been killed in the same circumstances. Glad there was no permanent damage done, hope to see you round. Wayne.

Hey, Im not trying trying to put you off the hobby or anything just wonderd could this not happen if you have say a tv on standby or a microwave, a cd player, a clock or many other house hold appliances that could suddenly catch on fire and caue just as much damage or risk from reptile equipment? good job someone was there!
Also anyone know how this actually happens? a spark or something? what actualy goes wrong to an appliance to cause a fire?
