Question A serious question on Leopard Gecko breeding.

I have a dialemma that I just cant seem to sort out in my head, and i hope your constructive thoughts will help me to decide weather to Breed or not to breed this year.

Ok here goes.

Last year was my first year at breeding leos. I did it for the experiance, Because in 24 years of keeping reptiles I've never kept or bred these in-dearing little creatures.

I was very sucessful. I must admit that the leos I aquired are at very good standard both in genitics and health.

With a small cologny of 1 male to 5 fe-males I managed to hatch 26 healthy fe-males and 2 males. Some of which I am told are new morphs/mutations ( I'm unsure of this but I must trust in the breeder who informed me of this).

Most of the young were traded for either food stuff's or credit at various reptile shops and some to breeders.

How ever I did hold back some of my Favourite looking fe-males. These are now up to size for breeding this year.

Four of the fe-males i used last year are also ready to use again plus another 5 favourites that I held back.
Alas one was lost to ill health after breeding. I just couldn't get her to gain weight after breeding.

I admit that I was so excited every time I see a newly hatched baby and loved watching them pipping through the egg. It's an amazing thing to watch, and exciting to see what morphs you have.
The Feeling of sucess is over-welming, as it is with breeding any reptile

This is my problem.

1. Are there enough leos out there? That are stuck in shops, breeders homes as there isn't the demand for the amount of stock?

2. If I was as sucessful this year as I was last year, Would I upset many breeders by selling at lower prices to clear out the surplus leos?

3. I know its unlikly that all the youngsters will breed but I would hate to loose some as I did with one female last year due to my excitement.

4. This is not done for monetry gain shearly the Buzz I get when they hatch.
I'm even more excited about it this year as the babies from last year are ready, and i want to know if I can clean up there certain traits that make them so attractive.

Do I breed again for my own greed???

tbh i always say that you should prepare for if they dont sell, thats the attitude i used to take as there are no garentees. if you have quite a lot, its worth maybe thinking about haveing a table at a show.

as for price, tbh at the end of the day its entiarly up to you have much you sell them for. though the lower in price the more likely they are to sell, yes there might be some breeders out there that wouldnt be to happy, but its up to you weather you under price them or over price them to be honest.

tbh there is no money in breeding leos, not unless you have the money to invest in some of the more expensive morphs, but then saying that, how many people at the moment have the money to buy an expensive morph? i say if its what you want to do then go for it, long as your prepared for the what ifs if that makes any sence? lol
