Default Female and Male for the first time

Right here goes.

I decided to get a female to put in with my male beardie.

I have owned the male since he was 6 weeks old and he is now around 18mnths old and never been in contact with another beardie. The female I got is approx 3 years old.

I put them at each end of the bed to be safe so I could grab one if anything happened.

He instantly ran at her and grabbed her back and started throwing her forwards. i have read alot that mating is quite brutal so I did not interupt . After nearly throwing her off the bed I grabbed them both and put them in the viv. this broke up the aggresion and she went to the basking spot and he stayed at the cool end . he stood there with a very black inflated beard looking at her while she was doing press ups. After 5 minutes she went over to the food bowl in the cool end and he grabbed her again but let go. as she went to walk past him back the basking spot he turned on his side and inflated his whole body to make him appear bigger. at this point I got him out and transfered him to another viv.

Is this all normal behaviour. they did not do the deed as he was to far away. Do you think maybe he feels threatened by her?

Any advice would be great .

my male did that when he was put with my female running around her on his side it can look a bit aggresive when the males start chomping on there necks but she should be fine as long as there not fighting.
mine live in the same viv and they have been fine.

Banjo did exactly the same thing to Matilda when she moved in. It lasted for around a week or so I think but once they'd done the deed he was fine. They've now lived together for about 4 months and get on really well.
