Default Mealworms

Hi,

I have a leopard gecko and have been feeding him crickets for the last 5 months or so. A couple of weeks ago I decided to change to mealworms, just because of the convenience.

Anyway, some of them have started turning into pupa and I'm sure it won't be long before they turn into beetles!

My mum won't allow me to keep them in the fridge to halt the process. Luckily my leo likes eating the pupa just as much as he does the larva, but what I want to know is; will he eat the beetles? And if so, are they likely to fly into area's he cannot get to?

Are there any other tips to halt the metamorphosis other than refrigeration? I'm pretty skint, so a mini fridge is out of the question.

Hi
I'm not sure if the leo would eat the beetles, i don't know if your leo's enjoying the pupa but theyre more likely to metamorphosis by themselves, again i dont know how much time that takes, However beetles may fly but not to where your leo cannot catch it i guess if your habitat is glass or plastic the beetle cannot climb in soft landscapes such as glass and plastic, it may hang to a screen lid of glass tanks the only way leo cant catch it.
Just make sure you research about it, it may not be good etc.

The beetles are fine to use as food so are the pupa, my LG's catch them with no issues. its very hard to stop them tuning into beetles when its hot, they need to be kept cool. One thing you could try is get a small cool bag with an ice block in the bottom and place the container on top of it, if you re-freeze the ice block over night when it should be cooler in your house it will be ready to use for the next day.
