There is an official policy that is accepted by the majority of the Countries in the World, that agrees legislation of trade in flora and fauna. This is the Convention of International Trade in Endangered Species (C.I.T.E.S).
In very simple terms there is a list of flora and fauna species split into groups. Appendix 1 and Appendix 2 are the most important.
If a species is listed on Appendix 1, then it is classed as Endangered and so (in almost all cases) be proven to be captive bred in order to be traded between countries. Dummerill's Boas, Rhino Iguanas, Fiji Banded Iguana's, Indian Pythons etc. are all Appendix 1. They must also be sold with CITES permits, and sometimes microchipped to identify them.
If on Appendix 2, they are classed as threatened, and so only traded with paperwork that monitors quota systems etc. to regulate their numbers. All Pythons, Boas, Monitors, Tortoises etc. are Appendix 2 (if not listed on Appendix 1).
Dum's are beautiful Boas, and dont get too big........cool!
